A hallmark is your guarantee that a piece of precious metal jewellery is what it says it is. In the UK, hallmarks are applied by one of four independent Assay Offices (Birmingham, Edinburgh, London and Sheffield), after the metal has been tested.
Our sterling silver
All jewellery we describe as sterling silver is 925 silver, meaning at least 925 parts in every 1,000 are pure silver. UK law requires silver items weighing more than 7.78 grams to be hallmarked before they can be sold as silver. Lighter pieces, such as most of our pendants and charms, are exempt, but they are still 925 sterling silver.
What our hallmarks show
- A sponsor’s mark, identifying the business responsible for the piece
- A fineness mark, 925, showing the silver content
- An Assay Office mark, showing where the piece was tested
Our other materials
Pieces made from stainless steel are described as stainless steel, with their colour, for example “stainless steel, silver colour”. They are not precious metal and are not hallmarked.
